What is CSF?
The California Scholarship Federation (CSF) is a statewide honor society that recognizes
students for their academic accomplishments. AHS was one of the charter members of CSF in 1921. Now there are more than 1,433 high school CSF Chapters across California. CSF fosters high standards of scholarship, service, and citizenship.

The Benefits Of CSF Membership
Membership is based on semester grades. Cumulative CSF membership (excluding freshman year) is recognized when seniors graduate. Seniors who attain four (4) semesters of CSF membership, with at least one semester in their
senior year, are awarded a gold cord to wear at graduation and a gold CSF seal on their
diploma. The words "CSF Life Membership" are added to their permanent high school
transcript. Seniors with six (6) semesters of CSF membership (i.e. both semesters of their sophomore, junior and senior years) earn a gold stole to wear at graduation plus the gold CSF diploma seal and transcript notation "CSF 100% Life Membership".

How To Apply For CSF Membership
For membership based on the fall semester one report card (dated 1/05/2022), apply online using the application PDF posted on the CSF Google Classroom for your grade. Submit the application on Google Classroom by attaching it to the Google CSF Form. Make a $5.00 donation in the Student Bank (open only Monday – Wednesday until 4:00 pm). Deadline: May 2, 2022.

What About My Distance Learning Semesters For CSF Membership?
We will determine CSF eligibility and membership for the three report card semesters that have passed - June 2020, January 2021, and June 2021. Students who qualify for CSF membership will be notified once the CSF advisors have evaluated student grades for those three report card periods. No applications need to be submitted for those prior semesters. Please be patient and wait for CSF membership lists to be posted later this semester.

Requirements For Membership & How Grades Are Considered For CSF
* CSF converts grades to points. Students must earn a minimum of ten CSF points to qualify. The point conversion is A = 3, B = 1, and C = 0.
* Students can earn one bonus point for honors, accelerated, or advanced placement classes, but there is a maximum of two bonus points that can be applied in any report card term. Bonus points may only be applied to A or B grades, not Cs. No more than two bonus points allowed.
* Students may use grades from no more than five classes on their report cards to qualify for CSF. When a student is taking more than five curricular courses, only the best five grades will be used to compute eligibility. PE and pass/fail courses do not count for CSF point calculations. Summer school courses and community college courses may not be counted for CSF either.
* Classes are organized into three course lists (see page 3 below), which are established and approved by the state CSF Registrar. Students must earn at least four points from List I classes and at least seven points from List I and II courses combined. List III courses may be used for the last three points to get to the total of ten, provided students have already gotten seven points from List I and II courses. However, many students qualify for CSF using grades from courses on List I alone or those on both Lists I and II. These rules are noted on the CSF application itself.
* Only ten CSF points are needed to qualify for membership. The maximum possible CSF points is 17, which can be attained with As in five courses plus two bonus points for AP/accelerated classes.
* No CSF points are given for physical education, courses taken in lieu of physical education, subjects repeated to improve a grade, summer school courses, community college courses, online courses such as ACELLUS, courses involving clerking and office/teaching assisting (TA) or work experience for pay, and courses taken on a pass/fail basis.

What Makes Students Ineligible For CSF Membership?
* A grade of D or F in any course, even in one you cannot use to qualify, disqualifies you from membership.
* Two Ns or one U in citizenship in any subject, including physical education, bars the student from membership.
* In the interpretation of eligibility requirements, the CSF state constitution expressly states
that students who are otherwise, eligible, but in the judgment of the advisor and principal are unworthy citizens, shall be barred from both semester and life membership.
